OUR OCEAN, OUR FUTURE
BLUE PROSPERITY MICRONESIA
Blue Prosperity Micronesia is a five-year partnership between the FSM Government and the Blue Prosperity Coalition to support the sustainable growth of marine resources. This government-led program w ill build upon existing efforts and commitments within the FSM, working closely with local and international organizations. This program aims to optimize ocean uses, protect 30% of the FSM’s waters, strengthen fisheries management, and help develop marine industries to improve the environment and livelihoods for future generations.
Support and develop marine industries by providing analytics and sector-specific research to identify opportunities for sustainable economic growth, develop business and finance plans, and work to attract financial resources for implementation.
Optimize sustainable ocean-based activities and uses by developing guidelines for ocean use to optimize economic growth and resource protection using a process called Marine Spatial Planning.
Strengthen fisheries benefits by building upon the substantial body of work and coordination within the FSM, conducting assessments, implementing targeted projects, and building capacity surrounding fisheries management and markets.
Protect and invest in marine resources within the established international and regional targets with a commitment to protecting 30% of the ocean space, with locations of protected areas to be determined through scientific research and community consultations.

Blue Economy Planning: A strategy and implementation plans to pursue opportunities for revenue diversification
Legal Development: Analyses and legal drafting support to allow for necessary legislative amendments
Sustainable Fisheries Planning: Tools to ensure fisheries will be viable for generations to come

Blue Prosperity Micronesia will explore sustainable development plans and uses to benefit coastal livelihoods and maintain marine ecosystems upon which coastal cultures rely.
We collaborate with community groups, stakeholders, businesses, scientists, and non-profit organizations at the community, state, and national levels.
Everything we do is grounded in science, starting with scientific assessments of the marine habitats and fisheries, continuing with policy recommendations, and ongoing monitoring.
The needs of communities and stakeholders are our first priority, and we listen through consultation meetings and stakeholder interviews. This input informs development and implementation of ocean policies.
