SUSTAINABLE FISHERIES
Blue Prosperity Micronesia is working to strengthen coastal fisheries in Chuuk through community-driven, data-informed approaches.
Blue Prosperity Micronesia is supporting community-led efforts in Weno and Oneisomw to modernize coastal fisheries monitoring and strengthen sustainable management. In collaboration with the Chuuk Department of Marine Resources and the Oneisomw Environment Conservation Management Association, the program piloted a fisheries monitoring initiative using Shellcatch, a smartphone app designed to address data gaps in nearshore fisheries.
This initiative demonstrates how strategic partnerships, backed by technology, scientific expertise, and strong community involvement, can improve the quality of fisheries data, support informed decision-making, and position local communities to play a leading role in managing their marine resources.
