FSM's Leaders Support Marine Spatial Planning

FSM’s leaders are taking major steps towards strengthening sustainable ocean management.

Leaders from Kosrae, Pohnpei, Chuuk, Yap, and the FSM National Government have signed a resolution expressing strong and unanimous support for a Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) Bill as a critical tool to help sustainably manage and protect FSM's marine and coastal resources.

This resolution acknowledges the value of FSM’s marine resources as “vital to the social, cultural, economic and environmental wellbeing of the nation.”

MSP is a public, stakeholder-driven and science-based process that involves mapping out different activities and uses in a specific marine area and then determining how they can best coexist and be managed sustainably.  MSP considers the needs of communities and all stakeholders, ensuring our marine resources thrive for future generations.
